New Draft Job Description for the Club Chair

Ideally the members will decide on the Chair role responsibilities and what is expected.


As the current description is incomplete  but here is a starter for 10 that will need updating should we adopt an improved 

Governance Structure 

 


Reports To: The Members

but works closely with the Secretary, Treasurer, and other Committee Members

 

Summary:

The Chair of the Running Club is responsible for providing visionary leadership and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the club. This includes fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all members, ensuring the club's financial stability, and representing the club at various events and meetings. The Chair also plays a key role in developing and implementing strategic plans to further the club's goals and objectives as described in the Articles of Association.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide visionary leadership and direction for the club:
    • Articulate a clear vision for the club's future and inspire members to achieve shared goals
    • Set ambitious yet achievable objectives and strategies to guide the club's growth and development
    • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the club
  • Oversee the club's management and operations:
    • Chair regular meetings of the club's Committee and ensure all meetings are conducted in an efficient and productive manner
    • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among club members and Committee members
    • Review and approve all club budgets and ensure the club operates within its financial means
    • Maintain accurate records of club activities and financial transactions
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders:
    • Represent the club at various events, meetings, and competitions
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with local running organizations, sponsors, and partners such as Vegan organisation and animal charities
    • Advocate for the club's interests and represent its members with integrity and respect
  • Contribute to the club's fundraising efforts:
    • Identify and pursue new fundraising opportunities to support the club's operations and activities
    • Collaborate with the Committee to develop and implement fundraising strategies for animal and vegan charities that the club supports
    • Oversee all fundraising activities and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
  • Enhance the club's membership and outreach:
    • Develop and implement strategies to attract new members and retain existing members
    • Promote the club's activities and events through various channels, including social media, email, and newsletters
    • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members regardless of their experience or background

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience:
    • Proven track record of clear communication in a collaborative and results-oriented manner
    • Ability to effectively delegate tasks and motivate others to achieve common goals
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills:
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form
    • Effective interpersonal skills to build rapport and foster positive relationships with members, stakeholders, and partners
    • Diplomatic and tactful in dealing with sensitive issues and resolving conflicts
  • Financial acumen and accounting knowledge:
    • Basic understanding of financial principles and accounting practices
    • Responsible approach to managing club finances and adhering to budgetary constraints
  • Passion for running and the club's mission:
    • Strong personal interest in running and the sport's benefits to physical and mental health
    • A passion for animal welfare and vegan ethics
    • Alignment with the club's mission and values of promoting running, camaraderie, and community
    • Willingness to volunteer time and effort to support the club's activities and events
